How to Watermark a PDF (CONFIDENTIAL, DRAFT or Your Name)

A watermark tells everyone a document is a draft, confidential or a sample – and discourages it being passed around as final.

Add it in your browser

Open Watermark PDF, type the text, pick red, grey or navy and light, medium or strong opacity, then drop in your PDF. A diagonal watermark is added to every page and the file downloads automatically.

Which text to use

DRAFT for documents under review, CONFIDENTIAL for internal or NDA-covered material, SAMPLE or PREVIEW for work sent before payment, and your company name for proposals.

Opacity matters

Medium (around 25%) is readable without hiding content. Use strong for previews you don't want reused.

Limits

Anyone with PDF editing software can remove a watermark. For sensitive files, also control who you send them to.
