The two things that make images big

Pixel dimensions: a modern phone photo is around 4000 x 3000 pixels, far more than any screen shows. Scaling it to 1920 pixels wide alone cuts the file size by around 75%.

Compression quality: saving at 70-80% JPG or WebP quality removes detail your eye can't see and shrinks the file dramatically.

Step by step

Open the free image compressor and drop in your photos (up to 50 at once).

Leave quality at 75% and set "Max width" to 1920 px for web or email use.

Choose WebP output for websites, or JPG if the place you are uploading to requires it, then download.

Target sizes that work

Email attachments: under 1 MB per photo. Websites: 100-300 KB per image. Government and job forms: often under 200 KB or 100 KB – lower the quality to 60% and max width to 1280 px if needed.

Frequently asked questions

How do I reduce a photo to under 100 KB?

Set max width to 1280 px and quality to about 60%. Most photos land well under 100 KB.

Is WebP better than JPG?

WebP is usually 25-35% smaller at the same visual quality and is supported by all modern browsers.

Does compressing change the photo dimensions?

Only if you choose a max width. Quality compression alone keeps the same pixel size.
