Percent off

Sale price = original × (1 – discount ÷ 100). $80 at 25% off: 80 × 0.75 = $60. You save $20.

Stacked discounts multiply

30% off then an extra 20%: 0.7 × 0.8 = 0.56, so you pay 56% – a 44% total discount, not 50%.

Mental shortcuts

10% off: move the decimal one place. 20%: double the 10% amount. 25%: divide by 4. 50%: halve it.

Add tax last

In most US stores sales tax is added to the discounted price. The Discount Calculator handles the discount, an extra discount and tax in one go.
