How to Blur Faces, Number Plates and Private Info in Photos

Before posting a photo of an event, a car or a screenshot of an email, it’s worth hiding what shouldn’t be public. Not every method is equally safe.

Do it in your browser

Open Blur & Pixelate Image, drag boxes over each face, plate or detail, pick Pixelate, Blur or Black box, and download. The image never leaves your device.

Which effect is safest?

A solid black box can't be reversed. Strong pixelation is also very safe. Light blur on text can sometimes be partly reconstructed, so never rely on it for passwords, ID numbers or card details.

On your phone

iPhone: Photos > Edit > Markup lets you draw opaque shapes. Android: Google Photos > Edit > Markup. Avoid semi-transparent highlighter tools – text can show through.

Don't forget the metadata

Photos can also contain hidden GPS location. Run them through Remove EXIF Data before sharing.
