How to Crop a Photo to an Exact Size or Ratio

Upload forms and social platforms want specific shapes. Cropping gets the shape right; resizing gets the pixel size right. Usually you need both.

Crop to the right ratio

Open Crop Image, choose your photo and pick a ratio – 1:1 for profile pictures and square posts, 4:5 for Instagram portrait, 9:16 for stories and reels, 16:9 for YouTube and slides. Drag the box over the part you want and download.

Then resize to exact pixels

If a form asks for, say, 600 × 600 px, crop to 1:1 first, then set the exact size in the Image Resizer. Doing it in that order avoids stretching.

Composition tips

Leave a little space around faces, keep eyes about one-third from the top, and avoid cutting people at the joints (knees, elbows).

Crop vs resize

Cropping removes part of the picture. Resizing keeps the whole picture but changes the number of pixels. Changing the shape without cropping stretches the image.
