What enlarging does
It creates new pixels between the existing ones. Good resampling keeps edges smooth and a little sharpening restores crispness – but it cannot recover detail the camera never recorded.
Get the best result
Start from the original file, not a screenshot or a copy sent through a messaging app. Enlarge once, by 2× if that is enough, and save as PNG to avoid extra compression.
How many pixels for print?
Multiply the print size in inches by 300 for top quality, or 150 for posters viewed from a distance. A 6 × 4 inch photo needs 1800 × 1200 pixels.
