How to Record Your Screen on Windows or Mac Without Installing Anything

Need a quick tutorial, bug report or demo video? You don’t need paid software – here are the free built-in options.

⏺️Free Screen Recorder
Record your screen, a window or a tab – with audio.
Open tool →

In your browser (Windows, Mac, Linux)

Open the Screen Recorder, choose whether to include your microphone, click Start and pick the whole screen, a window or a single tab. Click Stop and download the video. Nothing is uploaded and there's no watermark or time limit.

To capture sound from a video or a call, share a browser tab and tick 'Share tab audio'.

Windows built-in options

Windows 11's Snipping Tool can record the screen (press Windows + Shift + R). The Xbox Game Bar (Windows + G) records a single app window, which is handy for games and apps.

Mac built-in option

Press Command + Shift + 5, choose to record the whole screen or a portion, and click Record. Stop from the menu bar icon.

Tips for clear recordings

Close notifications and private tabs first, zoom the browser to 110-125% so text is readable, and keep recordings short – one topic per video.
