How to Remove Location Data from Photos Before Sharing

Every photo your phone takes can store the exact GPS coordinates of where it was taken, plus the date, time and phone model. Share it in the wrong place and a stranger can find your home. Here is how to strip it.

Remove it from any photo (all devices)

Open the free Remove EXIF tool and drop in your photos. It shows what hidden data each one contains – including GPS – and gives you clean copies with all metadata removed. Photos are processed on your device, never uploaded.

On iPhone

When sharing, tap "Options" at the top of the share sheet and switch off "Location". To stop saving location entirely: Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > Camera > Never.

On Android

Open the Camera app settings and turn off "Location tags" (the name varies by brand). In Google Photos, you can remove location from a photo via the info panel.

Where location data gets exposed

Big social networks usually strip location on upload, but email attachments, messaging apps that send "original quality", online marketplaces, forums and cloud share links often keep it.
