Know your baseline

Take the one-minute Typing Speed Test three times and note the average. Around 40 WPM is typical; 60 is comfortably fast; 80 and above is professional.

Accuracy first

Every mistake costs more time than typing slowly. Aim for 96% accuracy or better before chasing speed – speed follows naturally.

Learn touch typing

Rest your fingers on the home row (ASDF and JKL;) and stop looking at the keys. It feels slower for a week, then overtakes your old speed.

Short daily practice

Ten focused minutes a day beats an hour once a week. Retest weekly and track the trend rather than any single score.

Set up properly

Screen at eye level, wrists straight, elbows at about 90 degrees. A comfortable position sustains speed and prevents strain.
