How to Watermark Photos (Without Ruining Them)

A good watermark discourages theft without distracting from the photo. Here’s how photographers and small businesses do it.

Corner or tiled?

A small corner watermark (your name or website) suits portfolios and social posts – it credits you but is easy to crop out.

A tiled, semi-transparent watermark across the whole image is for client previews and stock-style proofs: much harder to remove, but it hides detail.

Get the opacity right

Around 30-50% opacity is visible without dominating. White text with a soft shadow works on most photos; use dark text on bright backgrounds.

Batch-watermark in your browser

Open Watermark Image, add up to 30 photos, type your text, pick the position, size, opacity and colour, then download them all. Photos are processed on your device.

What a watermark can't do

Watermarks deter casual copying; they don't stop determined people. For valuable work, share lower-resolution previews and keep full-size files for paying clients.
